VOMIT VIDEO SOURCES In the United Kingdom

'Vomit Videos' are considered by many therapists as the 'answer' to emetophobia and they believe that regularly watching such a video will gradually desensitise the viewer to any distress associated with vomiting or seeing others vomit.

Therapists generally recommend watching such videos daily until any anxiety has diminished, at which point, the patient is usually considered 'cured' and the therapist will have one less patient on his caseload.  However, research undertaken by the founder of Gut Reaction has indicated that Vomit Videos are only helpful when the fear is of OTHERS vomiting rather than oneself vomiting.    In the former case, they can be helpful.  Gut Reaction recommends approaching the video gradually and scaling this exercise.  Some emetophobes may feel sufficiently confident to order a video and watch it right through - but these are few and far between.  Far better is to adopt a longer-term approach and first watch the video in 'rewind mode' then, perhaps, 'fast-forward' mode so you will have an idea of the content.  Then progress to watching it in black and white without sound, then in colour and finally adding sound as the last component.

These are the Vomit Video sources I have traced to date - but there could be more!

If you find any others, either in the UK or overseas, please let me know by E-mail so I can update this site.

Delightfully entitled "Exposure to Vomit" has been produced by Gary Breedon of Ambassador Video, 149 Hurst Road, Smethwick, Birmingham, B67 6LZ. Tel. 0121 434 3847. Cost £15.00 for UK orders in 2007.  (cheques should be made payable to Gary Breedon). This includes a mix of simulated and real scenes of vomiting.  It is the most graphic and has helped some Gut Reaction members who fear others vomiting.  Videos can now be ordered on-line at www.ambassadorvideo.741.com  and further information can be obtained from: ambassador.video@btclick.com.

A new video is now available for those wishing to deal with Panic Attacks.  It is approximately 20 minutes long and is far superior in terms of quality and visual imagery - unlike the Vomit Video which was produced from some very old recordings.  Price: £25 from Ambassador Video.  (This has not been reviewed by Gut Reaction)

London's Maudsley Psychiatric Hospital which is considered to be at the forefront of phobia research and treatment has produced a short video as part of the hospital's desensitisation therapy. There are two (very) simulated vomiting scenes which are then repeated, lasting for a total of 10 minutes. The video is available from The Maudsley Hospital, De Crespigny Park, Denmark Hill, London, SE5 8AF. Cost £10 approx (cheques should be made payable to Maudsley Hospital).

NO PANIC, a UK self-help group has produced an amateur video which is available from NO PANIC, 93 Brands Farm Way, Randlay, Telford, Shropshire, TF3 2JQ. Tel. 01952 590005. Cost £5 (cheques should be made payable to No Panic). This short video features simulated 'vomit' falling onto sheets of paper.

All prices include postage and packing to UK addresses only. Please mention Gut Reaction when placing your order.

Apparently, the following website includes scenes of vomiting.  The site has not been checked or examined and the pages have not been placed by Gut Reaction so GR can accept no responsibility for their content.  Website : << http://www.partypage.net/firstpage.html >>
