There are very many different types of therapy
available for 'psychological' problems, some of which is more suited to phobias
than others.
Most treatment is only available privately (in the UK) and sessions can cost
anywhere between £15 and £95 per hour. However, I am also aware of a
London-based phobia-therapist who charges almost £500 per hour.
You are strongly urged to :
 | Consult your General Practitioner for advice and to rule out any physical
underlying medical condition which might account for any
nausea/vomiting/anxiety problems before embarking on any course of private
treatment. In the UK, your GP might be able to refer you for NHS-funded treatment or, at least, be able to supply you with details of
reputable therapists in your area. |
 | Check the credentials of any therapist with their Professional Body.
At present, in the UK, ANYBODY can call themselves a 'therapist' and set up
a therapy business - without any formal training or qualifications. |
 | Check, in advance, the cost of any treatment and how many sessions are
likely to be needed. Beware of therapists who try to tie you into a
1-year long, 2-sessions per week, therapy programme which could be exorbitantly
expensive and will not, necessarily, produce results. |
 | Ideally, pay for each session at a time to ensure you do not sign up for a
20-week treatment programme only to find after the 2nd session the treatment
is not for you or you don't trust the therapist. |
