hypnotherapy

Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy are very different to the stage hypnosis which seeks to ridicule its victims.

Hypnotherapy is often one of the treatments of choice for phobias.  It is theoretically considered  to be suitable for both Types 1 and 2 and is aimed at seeking the underlying cause for the person developing emetophobia.  In the case of a patient suffering from nausea attacks, it is said to help them deal with such attacks be reprogramming the mind to perceive them differently.

Over the first few sessions, the emetophobe will be taught and eased into a deep relaxation which involves sitting/lying and consciously relaxing major muscle groups and drifting into a state of deep relaxation, guided by the therapist.  In this highly relaxed state, positive suggestions for improvements to the patient's life can be addressed to the unconscious mind

A skilled therapist will try to guide the emetophobe's subconscious back through deeply-buried memories to identify any events or experiences which could have contributed to the development of the phobia. Usually, these will be events experienced in early childhood, 'learned' with a child's mind and possibly catastrophically misinterpreted. The therapist will then teach the emetophobe to relive or relearn these experiences with their adult intelligence.

By treating the root cause of the problem - the emetophobia should, theoretically, be eradicated.  However, Gut Reaction has yet to find any emetophobe who has achieved lasting results from hypnotherapy, although it has been found to be helpful for stress relief and general relaxation.
