According to Scientists,
seeing colour produces a strong sensation that can affect us profoundly in body,
mind and spirit.
As well as seeing colours, we also apparently feel them. Sensations of colour and brightness travel to the pituitary and pineal glands which act as the control centres of our hormonal systems.
Melatonin, the sleep/wake hormone, is switched on by darkness and off in bright light. Light also enters the body through the skin - as in sunlight which suggests that humans can feel the effects of light through the skin and so different colours can also have an effect upon our mental state.
Wearing different colours is said to send out signals to those around us and each colour is associated with different personality characteristics:
White: clean, pure, neutral
Black: sophisticated, powerful, depressing, sensual
Blue: honest, logical, boring
Green: friendly, nurturing, lazy
Yellow: creative, cheerful, busy, happy, disorganised
Orange: sporty, social, outgoing, untrustworthy
Red: passionate, extrovert, memorable, fiery, overbearing, 'tarty'
Indigo: inspiring, traditional, old
Violet: diplomatic, creative, unusual, controversial
Pink: feminine, soft, approachable, weak
Grey: classic, dependable, stuffy, boring
Brown: hard-working, down-to-earth, conservative, dull
Colour Therapists believe that different hues can improve physical, emotional and spiritual health and can also treat illnesses. Each colour has its own frequency - the rate at which its wavelength vibrates in the same way that the internal organs and body cells have vibration frequencies. Colours are used to correct imbalances in the body and create and promote harmony.
